The narcissist uses manipulation to control you

The narcissist has created an false image of themselves which in this community we call the false self. The false self has been created to project a persona or image out to the public, which is used to fool naive people, empaths, or individuals with low self worth. Once you allow the narcissist in they will manipulate you to get what they want through acts of kindness, gifts, or encouraging words to make you believe they are a good person. In order to pick up on the manipulation you have to sit back and observe the person for awhile. The false self has to slip at some point, so in order to distinguish who you are dealing with you have to take your time and get to know the people you meet. Nobody is perfect, but a narcissist is only in a relationship to take from people, and sometimes you cannot just trust actions since they can be a form of manipulation as well. If you meet someone and start to feel controlled, or pressured, or you are questioning yourself when you are with a person-it could be manipulation. Stay alert when meeting new people and take you time to get to know them to avoid falling into this trap.
